Why the door — not the wall? Read this first

Sound behaves like water: it finds the easiest path out. In almost every room that path is the door — a thin, light slab hung with air gaps all the way around it. You can stack mass on the walls and barely move the needle while a half-inch crack under the door leaks freely. Sealing and weighting the door is the single highest-leverage fix in most rooms. Technical reference — STC, gaps, and what this kit really does

One acoustic number comes up when people shop for soundproofing:

• STC (Sound Transmission Class): how much sound a full assembly blocks between two spaces. STC is a property of the whole door-and-frame assembly (the slab, the seals, the gaps) — not of a seal strip on its own. We don't print an STC number for this kit, because a meaningful figure depends on your specific door, frame, and how tightly it's fitted. Anyone quoting a single "kit STC" is guessing.
• Gaps beat mass: here's the honest physics — a sound leak through an unsealed gap can undo most of the benefit of a heavy door. Air gaps are the dominant leak path. That's why sealing the perimeter usually delivers the biggest real-world improvement you'll actually hear, and adding mass builds on top of a good seal.
